Focal Idiopathic Osteosclerosis


Definition: A hyperplasia of bone within the jaws.  This is frequently associated with root resorption (external resorption).

Radiographic Features:

Location: Anywhere in the maxilla and mandible.

Edge: Well-defined.

Shape: No apparent shape.

Internal: Radiopaque, radiopacity of cortical bone.

Other: May be associated with root resorption of adjacent teeth.

Number: May be single or multiple.
