Here are the answers for the 4 bitewing radiographic series to practice finding the caries.
- Maxillary right second premolar (#4) – distal
- Maxillary left second premolar (#13) – distal
- Maxillary left first molar (#14) – distal
- Maxillary left second molar (#15) – distal (possibly)
- Mandibular left second molar (#18) – mesial
- Mandibular left first molar (#19) – distal
- Mandibular right first molar (#30) – distal
If you have any questions or answers, please leave them below. Thanks and enjoy!
What about:
•Maxillary right second molar (#2) – mesial
•Maxillary left first premolar (#12) – distal, possibly- the DEJ is not clear
With the mesial of #2, I can see how the dentin appears slightly more radiolucent and could easily note this area as needing more clinical examination.
With the distal of # 12, due to the overlap I would want to see another radiograph with an open contact as it is difficult to say if there is something there or it is due to a pseudo-Mach effect from the overlap.
Dr.G, thanks for sharing this info.
how do you think about #31(Mandibular right second molar) mesial? isn’t the caries’ btw’ contact would be right?
On the molar bitewing, the enamel is a little more radiolucent at the level of the contact but this is due to overlap of the enamel from the distal of the first molar. If you look closely on the premolar bitewing you will see that the radiolucent area goes away. Thanks for asking. 🙂
