Vascular (Nutrient) Canals 1


Definition: Canals providing vasculature throughout the jaws.  They are typically seen running vertically.

Radiographic Features:

Location: Most commonly seen in the anterior mandible (areas of thin bone).

Edge: Well-defined.

Shape: Linear (either vertically or horizontally).

Internal: Radiolucent.

Other: None.

Number: Single or multiple.
